How we preserve and make breastmilk jewellery

Breastmilk jewellery is a wonderful way to capture a special moment in your journey.

It can be quite a divisive topic, we have encountered strong feelings both for and against it, it's not everyone's 'cup of tea'! - and that is a completely personal choice, but for those women who do choose to celebrate their achievement we hope we offer a beautiful range of jewellery to help you do so.

The process begins when you select your favourite design from our website. If you choose a ring but are unsure of your size, don't worry, we will send you a ring sizer in your inclusion pack. You can also let us know when you order if you would like any sparkle or shimmer added to your milk to give depth and light refraction to your inclusion stone, or some choose to change the colour of their milk entirely by adding some coloured sparkle or a pearlescent colour, there's tonnes to choose from!

Once we have received your order we will automatically send out an inclusion pack, this contains everything you need to send us anywhere between 10mls to an ounce of your milk, either fresh or defrosted from your ancient frozen stash! Package up your milk and return it to us - we will notify you via email as soon as it arrives. Sit back and wait for your special jewellery!

Once we have your milk in the studio the magic begins! We measure out 5mls of milk, this is combined with an equal amount of clear liquid preservative, and our time tested powder preservative formula. Our preservatives do not change the colour of your milk. You may find some online methods of preservation endorsing household materials such as citric acid or even school glue! The likelihood of these methods ensuring you create a timeless keepsake are quite slim - they may seem to work initially as both are a white additive to your milk, but are highly unlikely to withstand the test of time.

Our preservative mixture along with your milk are then heated to an exact temperature until your milk is a dry stone consistency and then your milk rock will be vacuum dried in a specialised chamber for up to three weeks. Once all signs of moisture are eliminated we can then refine the rock into an ultrafine powder that can be mixed with our crystal resin to create your special inclusion stone.

If that sounds like a lot of hard work, we promise you, it is! But we enjoy the process and the results are certainly worth it.

We only use crystal resin in our breastmilk jewellery. Even after the preservation process the breastmilk is an organic matter, which will not withstand the temperatures needed to be added to molten glass. Unfortunately there are some companies that seem to offer breastmilk in glass, but the chances of there being any milk present in glass considering that glass melts at incredibly high temperatures and carbonises all organic material is very slim.

Once we have created your breastmilk inclusion stone it is then set into your chosen design. All of our designs are created from strong precious metals, and we also offer a steel option for those who are allegic to sterling silver.

Your piece is hand polished to a mirror-shine, packed with love and sent on its way home to you.

We take great pride in our breastmilk preservation process, it has taken us years to perfect before we started to offer them in our collection, we hope you love your finished piece as much as we love creating it!
